NOTHING LIVES UNDER PINE ?
HMMMMMM
In the campaigns to negate and disqualify pine forest ,- It has been said that a pine plantation is just a "green desert" ...that nothing grows underneath them...well perhaps so....except for the many people in this densely crowded city who flourish and celebrate the cool shade in the forests of Table Mountain park. I suppose romance or two has flourished more than once or twice on the soft mattress of pine needles along with some top quality family bonding time has also flourished under the ....ALIENS!
This is not nature conservation,- this is obscene selfishness! But yes....what flourishes in the forests....Owls...Baboons (who also live on the pine nuts and easily escape peoples pets...well lets see.......
(THOUGHT QUESTION: - Can an indigenous forest be encouraged to re-grow in some areas currently under pine ??)
African Yellowwood thriving under pine,- this green desert they say!

So nothing grows under pine ? ..... (Pictures say a thousand words)

What's this ....living in the dreaded alien ambience ? its and owl.....An owl (made in Africa) finding pleasure in the forests of sin!

Tiny remaining forests in park less than 2% surrounded by 98% Fynbos
nothing grows under pine

nothing grows under pine

Its a desert under pine

nothing grows under pine

A cool, wet & fresh misty morning in the desert

The desert under pine ?

Mountain biker with pets flourishing in the green desert!

human and dog thriving in the cool shade

Musicians thriving under pine in the lifeless desert,- (a creative place to jam rather than on an urban sidewalk)

And ....Yes even .... LOVE ....the highest human condition was born in the green desert.....Human friendship and warmth thriving in the lifeless & grim desert of foreigner trees..........yes....there are many plain old human stories in the forests... here's some .......Kurt says "Its in the forests where I met my wife and now have a child with her ...7 years ago...Its very special and sentimental to me, we love the forests PLEASE SAVE OUR FORESTS!

"If the forests go, a part of me will go too! I walk in the forests all the time with my girlfriend and child! SAVE THE FORESTS"

What was a popular rest/shade tree gone. Hikers shocked & angry,- getting UV barbecued in the UV capital of the world! OH NO ..what's this ? A Sushi picnic in the desert..?.

A happy dog Mushroom collectors

OH NO ...what is this ?
What appears to be some kind of thriving religious group in the desert ....& idol worshiping in the blaspheming shade of foreign species ? However misinformed they might be on the biological side ....one wonders ....what is it that made them choose this place of biological sin? To sit quietly in prayer and thought,- was it perhaps the raging south Easter beyond the canopy ? Was it perhaps the scorching heat ? Was it perhaps that this event might be a little on the "ROUGH" side done in the open heat and wind of Fynbos?
When the forests are gone where will the misinformed go ?

more strange & lush green fern and other greenies.... seemingly flourishing in the desert!

RAPTORS...
Well, actually for me as a raptor, you know its a simple acronym based philosophy of "BcBc"...Beggars Cant Be Choosers, - whether its a yellow wood, pink wood, iron wood ... doesn't make any difference ....I have a penchant, a leaning to, - high off the ground trees, not many left, take what I can get! Personally prefer a real high tree to Fynbos,- Fynbos is a bit low to the ground...Foreigner... indigenous ...who cares....Its difficult finding a mate these days never mind a tree to nest! As I said not many big trees left and its BcBc for me!
BAB'S

Hmm,- Lets see...yes I love big trees... very easy to get away from pesky ground dwellers ..dog, human, predator, tourist...whatever.. I find scrambling up a vertical tree to be far more effective an escape than trying to confront a dog or whatever in a patch of Fynbos!
HOUNDS

Well for me...nothing like a good run in the shade,- especially in summer! Many hounds have met their makers in the baking heat of summer. Love the little streams in the forests to splash in and winter is great to. However there is some cause for concern here...that those baboons and squirrels get away to quick!

OUR URBAN FORESTS
ARE THEY MORE VALUABLE ....
DEAD OR ALIVE ?
?
P.S...O.K. also love Fynbos but this site is about people not biology,- The forests have their place and however much the purists might scream for the purifying of table mountain ...ITS WRONG! The forests occupy a tiny tiny slither of the mountain and here in a nutshell ....people & all the communities who enjoy the forests should be considered too,- amidst the Restios and Erica's of Fynbos!
